FACTS

WHERE IS WATER NOMADS WINDSURF LOCATED?
We have a rental equipment based in Auckland and Taranaki, as these are the most popular windsurf destinations in New Zealand, and are flexible to meet with as many travel/rental requirements as possible. Apart from that, we are exactly what the name suggests – nomadic! We not only preach the lifestyle, we also live it: travelling New Zealand all year round in a van, always looking for the best wind and waves. This has given our Water Nomads team a unique insight into most of the spots and can advise on what, where, and when.

We facilitate rentals nearly anywhere in the country as long as we get enough notice to get the required gear to where you want it. Let us know what conditions you are looking for and we can point you in the right direction and hire you the perfect SEVERNE gear for your needs.

The legendary Surfari Trips follow sun and wind and are a great way of getting the most out of your precious holiday as they come with your own personal wind guru, professional photographer, and spot guide. Just turn up, enjoy, and make new friends.

ARE YOU OPEN ALL YEAR?
Yes, we are open all year. New Zealand is a fantastic destination to escape the Northern Hemisphere winter and enjoy summer sunshine, wind, and long days on the water. Though even if you were to find yourself here during June and July, it is still warm enough to windsurf without freezing (especially on the North Island). The Surfari Trips run all year round, always traveling with the best wind: summer in the South Island, winter in Northland, and springtime in Taranaki.

Conditions

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?
We have a saying: If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

We also have the saying: When you go to war bring all your weapons! Meaning conditions vary widely, depending on what season you are traveling and where you are going.

Contact us with your travel plans and we are happy to help you with advice.

WHAT ARE THE BEST MONTHS TO VISIT?
Spring (September – December) is usually the least settled and windiest time of year for most places in New Zealand.

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES THE SPOT OFFER?
New Zealand has over 16000km of coastline, various sheltered harbors plus several thousand lakes. You can find everything from speed strips to world-class wave spots.

FOR WHICH TYPE OF RIDER IS THE SPOT MOST SUITABLE?
You find spots for any skill level and any style in New Zealand. Due to the nature of the rental business, we only rent to intermediate and expert windsurfers – you need to be completely self-sufficient and able to look after yourself. This is adventure travel at its best!

DO YOU OFFER CLINICS AND LESSONS?

No, we do not teach. At Water Nomads we cater to intermediate and expert windsurfers.

DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN WETSUIT AND HARNESS?

There are SEVERNE waist harnesses for you to rent. Please bring your own wetsuit if possible, however, we do have a very limited selection to rent.

WHICH WETSUIT DO I NEED?

In summer on the North Island, you might be okay in boardshorts on a warm day, whereas on the South Island, you will need a 4/3 (especially the inland lakes can be cold). In winter, a 3/2 or 4/3 is okay in the North Island, for the South Island you need a full 5/4 with a hood and maybe a snowboard.

DO YOU PROVIDE ACCOMMODATION?

During the Surfari Trips, we provide premium accommodation and healthy wholesome meals. If you only want to rent gear, you will most likely be traveling around the country and having an adventure – we cannot provide accommodation for that.

Entertainment

WHAT IS THERE TO DO BESIDES WINDSURFING?
New Zealand is a huge outdoor playground. As long as you enjoy nature, you won’t get bored here: Go hiking or mountain biking, kayaking or rafting, bungy jump, skydive,…. Any adventure sport you name, you will find it here, as organised activities or just to do on your own. There is plenty to explore between the different spots – traveling New Zealand can be the lifestyle you always dreamed of!

ARE THERE ANY BARS OR RESTAURANTS AROUND?

New Zealand’s larger towns and cities offer any sort of entertainment you would expect to find. Although a lot of the great windsurfing spots aren’t in the cities. Some of them are fairly remote, that’s part of the magic of New Zealand and what sets it apart from other places in the world.
