BLADE _CONTROL ORIENTED WAVE
The Blade has defined the 5-batten wave sail category for nearly two decades.
With the new GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY improvements are obvious. Lighter weight and better stability.
Corners have overlapped panels which reduces the amount of patching. At the same time, these overlapped areas extend into the body of the sail so it transitions the load much better, will be less stretched over time. It’s a more stable way of building sails.
Rather than a single curved luff panel, the Blade uses separate panels that radiate out of the head and tack corners. This perfectly aligns the sail material with the direction of load. Previously the curved panel would have bias stretch in all the wrong places. Direct transmission of power. Increased longevity. Total Control.

TECHNOLOGY

VX2
/ MATERIAL
VX2 is a vertically oriented X-Ply featuring increased fibre density for stability and control, reduced film thickness for less weight, and our proven scrim layer for dependable durability. The 2 signifies the film thickness in mil.
/ ADVANTAGES.
VX2 laminate significantly reduces deformation in the sail compared to eM3 material. The vertical stretch has been reduced by more than 20% whilst the horizontal stretch characteristics have increased fractionally to enhance the elastic springy feel that has defined the SV wave sails.
MORE STABLE.
MORE DURABLE.
LESS WEIGHT.

3&4 ROLLER TACK PULLEY
Roller tack pulleys are matched to the sails downhaul requirements and aligned for friction free downhauling and threading ease. Rig your sails with the Severne Hardware Division extensions for function and simplicity.

THERMOFORMED TACK FAIRING
Protects your board from impact and neatly covers the foot detailing. It incorporates the rope stash pocket for easy storage of your downhaul rope.

MOLDED SOFT EDGE
With recessed grooving, covering any vulnerable stitching the moulded soft edge encloses the hard edge long the foot of the sail and protects the stitching from wear along the board non-skid.

SPIDERFIBRE
A web of fibreglass filament that disburses loads across seams and throughout the body of the sail. By using stronger, lighter fibres and reducing sail patching, we can measurably reduce weight and swing weigh and at the same time, increase strength.

EM4 HIGH LOAD LAMINATE
Based on the proven eM3 platform, the high load eM4 material features twice the amount of X-Ply fibre and increased film thickness to maximise durability. This new material allows weight reduction whilst maintaining puncture resistance and tear strength. Used in the lower impact zone in the sail.

GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY
Corners have overlapped panels which reduces the amount of patching. At the same time, these overlapped areas extend into the body of the sail so it transitions the load much better, will be less stretched over time. It’s a more stable way of building sails.
Rather than a single curved luff panel, the Blade uses separate panels that radiate out of the head and tack corners. This perfectly aligns the sail material with the direction of load. Previously the curved panel would have bias stretch in all the wrong places. Direct transmission of power. Increased longevity. Total Control.

Using the new GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY. Corners have overlapped panels which reduces the amount of patching. At the same time these overlapped areas extend into the body of the sail so it transitions the load much better, will be less stretch over time. It’s a more stable way of building sails.
The GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY logically reduces weight, increases strength and controls stretch. Overall weight is reduced but the more significant improvement is the feel – quicker reacting and lighter feel.
Rather than a single curved luff panel, we use separate panels – split luff – that radiate out of the head and tack corners. This perfectly aligns the sail material with the direction of load.
Previously the curved panel would have bias stretch in all the wrong places. Direct transmission of power. Increased longevity.

What is new on the 023 Blade?
The 023 Blade sails make use of GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY, as well as, make use of high end materials such as VX2 and EM4.
You can read more about technologies here.
What is the difference between the Blade and the Blade Pro?
The key difference between the Blade and Blade Pro is the material, as well as, the construction.
Blade Pro is the only sail that is built using carbon fibre laminates from head to tack. Carbon is a higher performance fibre than the Technora, Kevlar, or polyester used in all other sails.
Better strength to weight ratios, more reactive, wider wind ranges.
Can I rig the Blade on an SDM mast?
No, the Blade is designed for RDM masts
What is the difference between Blade and S-1?
The Blade is kept neutral in the front of the sail to give a lot more control when riding or jumping.
The S-1 has 4 battens.
The S-1 is more manoeuvre oriented.
The S-1 has more backhand pressure.
Does the Blade change characteristics depending on size?
No, the Blade is a wave sail across the range. There are different needs between the sail sizes but in general, the feeling across the whole range is the same, making it easy to switch sizes.
WHERE CAN I GET A NEW SAIL WINDOW?
We recommend contacting your closest Severne dealer or distributor. Use the dealer locator to find your nearest dealer/distributor.
WHAT SIZE SAIL DO I NEED?
This depends on your weight and sailing conditions.
The most used sizes of the Blade range are the 4.2 / 4.7 / 5.3
CAN I RIG 4.5/5.0 ON 160-210 ENIGMA BOOM?
Yes, you can. But we strongly recommend the SEVERNE Enigma sizes 140 and 150.

CAN I USE A NON-SEVERNE MAST IN MY SAILS?
All of our development, testing, rigging, and tuning are done using SEVERNE masts.
We strongly recommend our customers use SEVERNE masts.
Our masts are designed with a specific SEVERNE bend curve that remains one of the pillars of our rigs.
We don’t test the performance or bend curves of other masts, and can thus not guarantee which performance or durability you can get out of your sail using a different brand mast.
We describe the curve of our mast as a SEVERNE curve.
The constant, hardtop, or flex top curves that generic mast brands describe base themselves on measurements on 3 points.
We measure our masts at 7 points minimum.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BLADE/BLADE PRO AND GATOR?
The Blade/Blade Pro is wave orientated whereas the Gator is a freewave/freeride oriented crossover sail.
The Blade/Blade Pro is specifically designed for the windsurfers who spend most of their time in the waves. A neutral sail that helps to improve riding and jumping.
The Gator will be your best match if you enjoy bump and jump conditions, occassionally riding some waves. Offering a softer, easier handling, the Gator will have you planning earlier than anyone else.
The Gator is freewave/freeride oriented.
The Gator planes earlier.
The Gator has five battens up to 7.0 and six battens from 7.5 and up.
The Blade is wave oriented. The Blade is more stable.
The Blade has five battens.
The Blade is more manoeuvreable.
