HGO – iQFOiL
OLYMPIC RACING
The HGO is a first of its kind. A foil racing sail built especially for the official IQFOIL class and will be the official sail for the 2024 Paris Olympic games. HGO is based on Severne’s already successful foil racing platform with multiple titles under its belt.
In 2019 World Sailing called for Sea Trials to select the equipment for the next Olympic Games in Paris’24. When this opportunity presented itself, Gonzalo Costa Hoevel took the lead of the project together with Ben Severne in creating the ultimate foil racing sail. Countless hours of R&D and brainstorming has resulted in a sail that not only will make you faster on the racecourse but also deliver top speeds.Â
The HGO focuses on speed and ease of handle with a reduced luff curve and re-distribution of shaping. The control gained from these design features allows for any foil racing newcomer to get to competition level speeds in no time.Â

SEAMLESS HEAD PANEL
This high abrasion area is made from only 1 panel and does not carry any exposed seams, preventing any potential weak point in this area. As a result, seam creep and seam-related failure have been eliminated.
DIRECT DRIVE TENTIONERS
The DDT 4 and DDT 5 tensioners directly connect the tube batten to the leech of the sail. This new design eliminates the heavy section of tube that is needed for the standard batten tensioner and being smaller, has superior aerodynamics. It is used on all lower tension battens in the OVERDRIVE M2 and the MACH 2.
LEECH REINFORCEMENT
Leech area at batten tips carry extra reinforcement for extended durability
REFINED LEADING EDGE
Tuned entry with a finer leading edge rotation for reduced drag.
OPTIMIZED AERODYNAMICS
By aligning the battens with the direction of airflow drag has been reduced. Clean panels with minimal seams further improve the aerodynamics.
HIGH PERFORMANCE MONOFILM
Custom high end monofilm construction to maximise performance and minimize weight. Construction mimics the exact sail prototypes that were tested by our racers.
BOOM HEIGHT REFERENCE
Boom height gauge for ease of reference.
CAM AREA REINFORCEMENT
Area around all of the cams have extra reinforcement for mast sleeve protection.
ACTION WINDOW PANEL
Crucial to big fleet starts, slalom racing and close contact. Keep a close eye on your competitors and your own positioning during racing.
OPTIONAL CLEW POSITIONS
POSITION 1:
Use this position for the lighter wind days. This clew position gives you more power and upwind angle.
POSITION 2:
This setting allows the sail to open up and breathe more. It gives you more speed and more control.
EASY FIX REMOVABLE OUTHAUL HOOK
The HGO carries the removable outhaul hook in the top position. This can easily be moved to the lower clew using the SEVERNE HEX-4 batten tensioner.
THERMOFORMED TACK FAIRING
Protects your board from impact and neatly covers the foot detailing. It incorporates the rope stash pocket for easy storage of your downhaul rope.
MOLDED SOFT EDGE
With recessed grooving, covering any vulnerable stitching the moulded soft edge encloses the hard edge long the foot of the sail and protects the stitching from wear along the board non-skid.
3&4 ROLLER TACK PULLEY
Roller tack pulleys are matched to the sails downhaul requirements and aligned for friction free downhauling and threading ease. Rig your sails with the Severne Hardware Division extensions for function and simplicity.
SEAMLESS FOOT CONSTRUCTION
A single panel in the foot area with hidden load patches and zero exposed stitching eliminates seam abrasion and seam creep in this high load area. Maximum durability and minimum weight.
SEAM PROTECTION PANELS
Panels reinforced with kevlar strips protect the foot area seems from abrasion from the board when the sail is in the water or when launching.

FAQ
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HGO AND THE HYPERGLIDE SERIES?
The HGO is the sail for the iQFOiL Olympic class.
The SEVERNE HGO is designed based on the race-winning HyperGlide series that won countless victories, including a PWA World Title and a Formula Foil World Championships title.
As an evolution of the HyperGlide, The HGO focuses on speed and ease of handling with a reduced luff curve and re-distribution of shaping. The control gained from these design features allows any foil-racing newcomer to get to competition-level speeds quickly.
The HyperGlide series has evolved many generations since the HGO’s introduction, currently representing the pinnacle of the SEVERNE foil racing range.
CAN I USE A NON-SEVERNE MAST IN MY SAILS?
All of our development, testing, rigging, and tuning are done using Severne masts. We don’t test the performance or bend curves of other masts, and can not guarantee which performance or durability you can get out of your sail using a different brand mast. Therefore, we strongly recommend our customers use SEVERNE masts.
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED MAST FOR HGO?
iQFOiL Apex.
