Severne Blade 020 - Wave sail
pointer

SEAMLESS HEAD PANEL

This high abrasion area is made from only 1 panel and does not carry any exposed seams, preventing any potential weak point in this area. As a result, seam creep and seam-related failure have been eliminated.

DOUBLE SEAMS

DOUBLE SEAMS

All Severne wave sails have 25mm double stitched window seams. The wider, single colour seam tape ensures maximum tear strength and crash resistance

pointer

3&4 ROLLER TACK PULLEY

Roller tack pulleys are matched to the sails downhaul requirements and aligned for friction free downhauling and threading ease. Rig your sails with the Severne Hardware Division extensions for function and simplicity.

THERMOFORMED TACK FAIRING

THERMOFORMED TACK FAIRING

Protects your board from impact and neatly covers the foot detailing. It incorporates the rope stash pocket for easy storage of your downhaul rope.

MOLDED SOFT EDGE

MOLDED SOFT EDGE

With recessed grooving, covering any vulnerable stitching the moulded soft edge encloses the hard edge long the foot of the sail and protects the stitching from wear along the board non-skid.

EM4 HIGH LOAD LAMINATE

EM4 HIGH LOAD LAMINATE

Based on the proven eM3 platform, the high load eM4 material features twice the amount of X-Ply fibre and increased film thickness to maximise durability. This new material allows weight reduction whilst maintaining puncture resistance and tear strength. Used in the lower impact zone in the sail.

SEAMLESS FOOT CONSTRUCTION

A single panel in the foot area with hidden load patches and zero exposed stitching eliminates seam abrasion and seam creep in this high load area. Maximum durability and minimum weight.

Which sail gets planing earlier, the Freek or the FoilFreek?

Both sails perform well in light winds, but the FoilFreek will generate more lift due to its higher aspect design, and thus, slightly earlier planing/flight. The Freek, however, will provide a wide wind range in both upper and lower limits.

If you are mostly foiling, the FoilFreek is your go-to sail. If you freestyle on the fin, the Freek is the right sail for you.

How do I change battens on the Freek?

To replace a batten, untie the batten screw with the Hex4 tool and take it out before pulling out the batten with pliers. Then put the 2 broken pieces together to determine the length of the batten, and use this as an indication to cut the replacement batten to length. The new batten is then inserted and the Hex4 batten tensioner piece is attached to the batten end. Connect the rope and tighten the batten tensioner until there is enough tension in the batten pocket to remove creases.

WHERE CAN I GET SPARE BATTENS?

We suggest you contact your local Severne dealer, they can order these from the distributor.

Use the SEVERNE dealer locator to find your nearest dealer/distributor

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FREEK AND A BLADE?

The Freek is a true freestyle-orientated sail with all the characteristics that go with it; A bigger stretch of the mast sleeve for instant power and depower, and a tighter leech among others.

The Blade is wave orientated, locking the power in one place, making it more neutral in both jumps and riding.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I RIG MY SAIL WITH TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE DOWNHAUL?

Rigging the Freek with too much downhaul will cause the top of the sail to open up, making it more neutral and less powerful. When getting overpowered, you might feel more comfortable with additional downhaul. Moves like ducking get negatively affected by over downhauling. If you rig the Freek with less downhaul than recommended, the sail will feel heavy/physical, and your entry speed into the moves will be lower.

An essential reference when rigging the Freek is that batten #4 and #5 (from the top) still touch the mast. This way ducking will stay easy.

CAN I USE A NON-SEVERNE MAST IN MY SAILS?

All of our development, testing, rigging, and tuning are done using SEVERNE masts.

We strongly recommend our customers use SEVERNE masts. Our masts are designed with a specific SEVERNE bend curve that remains one of the pillars of our rigs.

We don’t test the performance or bend curves of other masts, and can thus not guarantee which performance or durability you can get out of your sail using a different brand mast.

We describe the curve of our mast as a SEVERNE curve. The constant, hardtop, or flex top curves that generic mast brands describe base themselves on measurements on 3 points.

We measure our masts at 7 points minimum.
