The Severne team visits Rene Egli Fuerteventura for another successful test week

Back in paradise

For the third year in a row, René Égli Fuerteventura hosted the Severne test week; a format that allows for the centre staff and clients to get closer to the Severne brand in some of the best conditions in the world.

And as usual, it was a week to remember. The combination of René Égli and INNSIDE by Mélia Fuerteventura provided more than ideal surroundings for a successful event, and Sotavento beach delivered a variety of conditions for daily action on the water.

The beaches of Sotavento in the south of Fuerteventura have been connected with high wind action through more than 35 years of world cup competition. But it also happens to be one of the best, most windy spots in the world, ideal for equipment test and development. Réne Égli is located right on this spot and offers clients one of the largest selections in the world when it comes to windsurfing equipment rental all year round.

As coronavirus restrictions are being relaxed across Europe and the world, travel has become easier, and this location is once again buzzing with activity. From the 15-18 of September, any client of the centre had the unique opportunity to get an insight into the latest equipment from the Severne brand, as well as, get to know the team. Foiling, freeride and freewave was on the program for this event.

And from the very first day, it was on with foiling and freeriding action. The wind was up, and many keen windsurfers were looking to get on the water.

The following day, anyone could join a foil clinic with former Olympic gold medalist Marina Alabau and her sister Blanca Alabau followed by a foil testing session. Many had their first encounter with foiling on this day, and it was evident that it wouldn’t be their last time either. The combination of the Severne Alien freeride foil board with the RedWing foil and FoilGlide 2 freeride foil sail was without a doubt a winner in terms of first time user experience. Many, including first time wind foilers, also had the chance to test out the new Predator freestyle foil board combined with the FoilFreek freestyle foil sail and RedWing foil. Future FoilGlide freeride foil sail prototypes also got on the water on this day.

Movie night

The INNSIDE by Mélia Fuerteventura provided the perfect location for a meet and greet movie night that included a screening of a clip based on the previous years’ event, as well as, a preview of the 022 Severne wave/freestyle range. The sunset views at the INNSIDE by Mélia are hard to beat and definitely set the scene for a great evening.

Windy days

On the last days of the test week, the wind turned up to another level and the small boards and sails got on the water.

New Severne NCX freeride sails and Gator freemove sails got on the water to be tested with Fox freeride and Dyno freewave boards.

With the classical Sotavento conditions fully turning on, it was time for some high wind action, but also for a fun race organised by René Égli and Severne for all of the clients of the centre. The rules were simple; do a beach start, sail out to a bouy about 100 meters out, sail back, come up on land, and touch a Severne flag placed on the beach. Local chief kite instructor Mike took the win.

Conclusion

The test week events in collaboration with René Égli Fuerteventura have been a success from day one as they provide centre clients and staff a chance to get closer to the Severne brand and its products in a relaxed environment, and has been a great way of passing on information and knowledge about current and future products. And finally, it was provided Severne an opportunity to put products into real life testing environments which ultimately helps for R&D of future products.

Thanks to René Égli Fuerteventura, INNSIDE by Mélia Fuerteventura and Marina and Blanca Alabau for making the 2021 version of the test week a success.
