THE CHILE WORLD CUP IS ON!
One of the biggest windsurf wave events in South American history kicked off on April 1st, and will run through to April 12th. The time has come for the PWA-IWT Chile World Cup, and based on the action we saw last year, we can expect to see high-quality windsurfing.
The event organizers estimate a total of 100 participants divided into multiple categories:
- Pro’s
- Challengers
- Masters
- Juniors
- Open Am
OUR RIDERS – WHO’S JOINING?
Nearly the full Severne team has entered. Leading the charge are last year’s event winners Jane Seman and Philip Koster. They’ll be joined by port-tack experts Liam Dunkerbeck, Lina Erpenstein, Pauline Katz, Dieter Van der Eyken, and the Italian, semi-local, Federico Morisio.
Not to be overlooked are the emerging talents Sol Degrieck and Ryu Noguchi. They have both showcased their potential and ability to challenge established names.
WHAT THE ORGANIZERS SAY
IWT Wave Tour Director Simeon Glasson says: “These record-breaking numbers mean we’ll have an intense and action-packed competition for the Chile World Cup event. It’s the first time Chile has ever hosted a full 5-Star World Cup, and it’s off to a banging start as it smashes all previous records. The growth that the 2023 unification of the PWA and IWT tours is bringing is also a major contributor. Along with a new 5-Star global pyramid structure, the sport of windsurfing is seeing a resurgence across a wide range of demographics.”
Contest organizer Felipe Wedeles explains the growth: “So many new people are getting involved in the sport because of the competition. Right from the first invitational event we ran in 2005 to now, everybody gets inspired when they see the top pros ripping.”
