PAULINE KATZ

THE LOWDOWN

Born in Switzerland, I spent my childhood on a snowboard. I surfed my very first wave in Gnaraloo, Western Australia, in 2016. After this first taste of wave sailing, I couldn’t stop dreaming about it while working as an engineer back home.

At 30, I quit my job to follow my dream of sailing more. I ended up in Pozo Izquierdo, Gran Canaria, where I’m a resident now. Pozo is the perfect spot to spend a lot of time in the water.

I learned to forward loop the first summer, landed my first backloop the second one and some pushloops the third one.

For me, riding the Redback has been a game-changer and I love being fully powered on my 3.0 in Pozo.

Philip Köster brought back the triple loop once again, Lina finished second overall and now leads world ranking, and Matteo Iachino finished second overall in the first-ever Slalom X contest. It seems as if the 2024 Pozo Gran Canaria World Cup had action from the very first minute until the end.

PWA Gran Canaria World Cup 2023 – eight days of full on action

This year’s Gran Canaria world cup was a week-long windsurfing action reel covering wave, and slalom racing.

Not a single day was quiet during this year’s Gran Canaria World Cup. The first weekend delivered the near-perfect wave conditions we all see in magazine shots. Then followed three days of full-power slalom racing, only to have wave action return the following weekend to bookend an incredible event.

Nearly all podiums had Severne riders present. Amongst others, Daida Moreno won her 22nd Pozo title, and Blanca Alabau won her first-ever women’s slalom victory.
