DIETER VAN DER EYKEN
THE LOWDOWN
It’s been a pleasure to make from my passion my work over the past years. Growing up in Belgium I was lucky enough to learn windsurfing from my dad at a young age.
After he taught me the basics of windsurfing I was addicted straight away and built my whole life around it. I started off with the Freestyle discipline going from Youth Worldchampion in 2009 till PWA Worldchampion in 2015. Since then, I have also dedicated a large amount of my time to the wave sailing discipline.

GEAR
Weight : 75 kg
WAVE
15 – 25 knots: Nano 82 with S-1 5.2 / 4.8 / 4.4
25 – 35 knots : Nano 77 with S-1 4.4 / 4.0 / 3.6
35 – 45 knots : Nano 72 with S-1 4.0 / 3.6 / 3.3
Most used board sizes; Nano 82 & Nano 77
“When sailing in places with a lot of currents I will try to stay on a bigger board size in general. With smaller waves and not much current, I prefer to switch down to a smaller board size but stay on a bigger sail size (to keep more power). This allows me to fit better into the small pockets of the waves. Generally I sail on fairly small boards compared to other riders with the same weight.“
FREESTYLE
15 – 20 knots: Psycho 102 with FREEK 5.2 / 4.8 (only when flat water)
18 – 35 knots: Psycho 92 with FREEK 4.8 / 4.4 / 4.0 (92 is most used size 95% of the time)
* These preferences vary depending on sailor, location and conditions, so you should always make sure you find the setup that is right for you and the conditions you will ride in.
