
The 2023 Margaret River Wave Classic in Western Australia will happen this year from January 26-29.
Severne is proud to support this year’s event, and to see competition wave action return to “margs”.
The Margaret River Wave Classic 2023 will go ahead as a IWT** tour stop.
EVENT INFO
The organisers have published the following details.
Thursday, January 26th
Arrival at Margaret River. Australia Day Warm-Up sunset Session.
Friday, January 27th
Afternoon Warm Up, No contest.
Saturday, January 28th / Contest Day
- Confirming online Registrations 9:30 am – 10:30 am (extra $50 fee for late entry on the day)
- Opening ceremony 11 am
- The first possible start is 12pm till Sunset.
- Beers & Dinner at “The Common” with a discount for athletes
Sunday January 29th / Backup day
- Free Expression session, best move awarded.
- Prize Giving at the point under the Severne Tent
- Big Raffle, Beers & Dinner at “The Common” with a discount for athletes
*If the event is finished by Saturday, we will not count Sunday as a contest day.
The expression session will not be mandatory.
Registration closes on Thursday 26th January at 10:00 pm. Late entry fee penalty is $50
Safety
2 x Jet ski in the water during contest day only (no expression session).
First AID kit at the beach.
Categories
Learning from the previous contest, we will award:
- Open top 3 – wooden trophies + wine
- Women’s top 3 – wooden trophies + wine
- Junior top 3 – wooden trophy
- Master ( over 45 ) – top 3 wooden trophies + wine
- Grandmaster ( over 55 ) 1st – wooden trophy + wine , 2nd 3rd wine only
- Best Wipeout – 1 x Gath Helmet
- Youngest Rider – 1 x Gath Helmet
- Oldest Legend 1 x Gath Helmet
Prize money is to be confirmed for the Open division.
If we do not have a good number of riders in the women’s divisions, we will run it together with the Open division and award the women based on the final result.
The winner of the Junior division will gain a spot in the Open division.
If we do not have a good number for each division The Master and Grandmasters will compete together and we will award the separate divisions based on the final result
*A final decision is made on the day of contest.
The Prize Giving will be at Surfers Point under the Severne tent on Sunday 29th in the afternoon.
Judging criteria
Subject to conditions, potentially based on 2 best waves.
Heats duration between 12 to 15 minutes depending on conditions.

Accommodation
Option available for a shared space up to 26 spots bunks beds at RAC caravan park in Margaret River, Carter road for Friday and Saturday night.
A minimum of 10 people is needed to make prices feasible as we have booked a whole cabin.

We can only confirm the booking if we reach a minimum of 10 people. Pillow and sheets not provided.

At the Prince of Speed in La Palme, France, two team SEVERNE riders hold the two fastest nautical mile times in the world. Antoine Albeau set a new mark at 44.97 knots; Cedric Bordes sits second at 44.42. Both rode the same setup, the Monster and Fury they co-developed together.
