Lina Erpenstein’s winning gear

Fresh off her elite performance at the Tenerife 2024 comp, current world #1 Lina Erpenstein has shared insights into the gear choice that rocketed her to the top of the podium.

This time, we’re dissecting Lina’s quiver configuration, sail sizes, and board selections (with fin configuration) that made all the difference in Tenerife’s challenging conditions.

From her dead set reliable S-1 4.8 sail that’s now bagged two World Cups, to her snappy Nano Pro 82L board that kept her carving at full tilt; Lina spills the beans on the Severne tech that gave her the competitive edge.

WHAT WAS YOUR QUIVER FOR THE TENERIFE EVENT? WHICH SAILS DID YOU HAVE RIGGED UP ON THE BEACH?This time it was quite relaxed “sail rigging” wise. We had years where I had to change from 4.8 to 3.3 within one heat, but luckily not this year. I had my S-1 4.8 and 4.4 rigged and ready and the 4.0 as backup on the beach, but I didn’t need it.

WHAT SIZE DID YOU END UP USING THE MOST? WHAT WAS THE “FINAL WINNING” SAIL?

I used the S-1 4.8 in all of my heats, except the semifinal of the single elimination, where I was on 4.4. This is the sail I used in Chile already and I can’t believe this sail has now won 2 World Cups already. I think this will be a keeper.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TENERIFE SAIL AND SIZE?

I really enjoyed the bigger sails this year in Tenerife. I use the RDM RED 400 mast on the 4.8 and this makes the sail so light and responsive that I can get some extra power while still having a light and reactive sail. Together with the new super light construction on the Nano Pro 82L, I had a very responsive gear setup that gave me an advantage.

AS FOR BOARDS, WHAT DID YOU HAVE SET UP ON THE BEACH?

I had the Nano Pro 82L and a back-up on the beach. Since the wind was light I ended up using only the 82L and because the boards is so light, I could keep a lot of speed in the turns even if I wasn’t powered through my sail.

WHICH BOARD DID YOU END UP USING THE MOST FOR THE COMP? WALK US THROUGH IT.

I received new boards just before the comp and ended up loving the new  Nano Pro 82. I was playing around with fins and positions a bit before the comp and found a magic setup that I used in all of the heats. It’s worth trying out different fins if you’d like to get personalised performance. I was using 140s in the back and 90s in the front.

LINA’S WINNING QUIVER

Well, there you have it. Summing up Lina’s answers, here’s the lowdown of Lina’s winning setup:

– Sail: S-1 4.8 (rigged on RDM RED 400 mast)
– Board: Nano Pro 82
– Harness: Air

Engineering Breakdown: What Powers your 026 Wave Sail

The 026 wave sail program delivers systematic weight reduction, enhanced reactivity, and direct power transmission. VX2 leech panels cut swing weight at the critical four-metre leverage point. D6 Dacron luff technology creates silent forward pull without backhand pressure. CarbonFusion welded construction eliminates micro-flex for instant response. Carbon insert systems lock every connection point for zero energy loss. SEVERNE engineering; lighter where it matters, stiffer where it counts, more responsive throughout.

Scott McKercher and Federico Infantino: XXL swell up north

The forecast was too good to ignore. Big swell, clean wind, perfect tide; everything aligned for one of those sessions you remember for years. Federico Infantino had already committed to heading north when the charts lit up with solid lines marching toward Western Australia’s remote coastline. Scott McKercher made the two-day mission north specifically for this swell

OBX-WIND 2025: the community gather on the Outer Banks

OBX-WIND 2025 delivered everything a windsurfing event should be. Consistent Outer Banks wind powered Long Distance racing and Mega Slalom competition on the Pamlico Sound, while Friday’s freestyle expression session brought pros and up-and-coming sailors together. The Beer Race, giant raffle, and Halloween costume party proved that growing the sport requires more than just competition; it’s about building community. SEVERNE has backed this event for years, and watching it expand what’s possible for grassroots windsurfing makes the commitment worthwhile.
