Lina Erpenstein hosts girls clinic in Germany

RACER OF THE SEA GIRLS CLINIC

This Summer, Severne rider Lina Erpenstein hosted the first-ever Girls Camp at the Baltic Sea in collaboration with the Racer-of-the-Sea Organisation. The camp was supported by Severne and Starboard Germany and SOMWR.

Ten windsurf girls from all over Germany found their way to the beautiful campsite of Hemmelmark, close to Eckernförde at the Baltic Sea, where the camp took place.

After the arrival and first dinner together on Friday evening, Lina was ready to answer everyone’s questions. The current world number 4 in the PWA women’s wave discipline talked about her life competing on the world tour and showed photos and videos from her traveling and training experiences. After a timid start, the participants could ask all their questions to gain some insights into professional windsurfing.

Saturday started with light winds and was fairly cloudy. After a Yoga session and breakfast, the participants had the chance to gain their first foiling experiences. With a board, foil, and rope they were towed behind a boat and some made their first efforts of flying above the water. Towards sunset, the wind picked up, and the day ended with a windsurfing session. Here the participants could choose between windsurf foiling and a light wind freestyle session with Lina Erpenstein to work on their sail handling skills.

The wind prediction for Sunday was a lot more promising. With sunshine all day long and wind between 12-14 knots, the conditions were perfect to extend foiling and light wind freestyle progresses from the day before. Next to their first helitacks and duck gybes some participants were able to do their first meters on the wind foil. The session ended with a lot of happy faces. In the afternoon, the camp came to an end with a raffle, which had every participant take home one gift from the sponsors: SOMWR, Starboard/Severne Germany, Xcel, and Südkap Surfing.

Besides the windsurfing and foiling sessions the GIRLS Camp had a lot more to offer: Tech-Talk and equipment tuning, a self-made bio-regional kitchen, and a movie night, just to name a few.

Altogether the first SOMWR X Racer of the Sea X Lina Erpenstein GIRLS CAMP was a great success and plans for next year already look promising.

OBX-WIND 2025: the community gather on the Outer Banks

OBX-WIND 2025 delivered everything a windsurfing event should be. Consistent Outer Banks wind powered Long Distance racing and Mega Slalom competition on the Pamlico Sound, while Friday’s freestyle expression session brought pros and up-and-coming sailors together. The Beer Race, giant raffle, and Halloween costume party proved that growing the sport requires more than just competition; it’s about building community. SEVERNE has backed this event for years, and watching it expand what’s possible for grassroots windsurfing makes the commitment worthwhile.
