TEAM SEVERNE SCORES PODIUMS ALL-ROUND

The PWA Fuerteventura Freestyle event delivered another action packed show in the world of windsurfing, captivating fans with breathtaking performances and nail-biting finishes, re-writing the history books as Fuerteventura just got a new winner.

This year, the competition saw a mix of seasoned world champions and rising stars battling the elements and each other for the coveted titles. Among the highlights, Lennart Neubauer’s much desired win in the men’s freestyle and Oda Johanne’s strong second-place finish in the women’s draw stood out as key moments. Needless to say, the funboarding show from Balz “Radiculo” Müller was an inspirational success once again, as well as Maaike Huvermann’s well battled third place.

Men’s freestyle

Lennart Neubauer’s journey to the top of the podium was a pleasure to watch. Demonstrating exceptional skill, and creativity, Lennart captivated both judges and spectators alike. His powerful maneuvers like air flaka-shaka’s, spock double culo’s, or huge kabi’s, together with his oneness with the conditions proved why he is considered one of the sport’s brightest talents. This victory marks a very significant milestone in Neubauer’s career, and puts him in a good run for the 2024 freestyle world title.

RADICULO’S “FUNBOARDING” SHOW

Of course, another notable performance came from Balz Müller, who not only put on the true freestyling show that he’s known for, he also finished in an incredible fourth place. Balz, well recognized by his innovative approach and fearless style, put up a strong fight throughout the competition. Although he just missed out on a podium finish, his efforts did not go unnoticed. Body-drag’s, duck-gybes, Willy-skipper’s, and Shaka-tucan’s all made part of the Radiculo freestyle show. It’s clear that Balz’s “showman” approach to freestyle and his constant drive for expression has earned him a permanent spot in the freestyle hall of fame.

WOMEN’S FREESTYLE

In the women’s draw, the competition was equally fierce. Severne rider Oda Johanne delivered a stellar performance, securing a well-deserved second place. Oda’s consistency and experience were evident as she pushed through a series of challenging heats. Her ability to perform under pressure and deliver high-scoring runs solidified her position as one of the top contenders in women’s freestyle windsurfing, claiming back the Vice Freestyle World Championship Title after 9 years.

Maaike Huvermann also put on an impressive display, finishing in third place. Huvermann’s dynamic and energetic style added an exciting dimension to the competition. Throwing some very stylish Shove-it spocks and kono’s alike, Maaike stole back the third podium spot from Lisa Kloster after just missing out during the single elimination.
