A Hands-On Review
Both the Severne Blade and S-1 have been cornerstones in Severne’s lineup since the early days.
The Blade has defined the 5-batten wave sail category for 20 years. Known as the control oriented wave sail, the Blade has been a benchmark wave sail within its category for countless years.
The S-1 is the manoeuvre oriented 4 batten wave sail. The reduced batten count makes this sail light, flexible and responsive. The S-1 has more back-hand pressure than the Blade, ensuring there’s always some juice to go vert or launch moves.
As both sail models have progressed throughout the years, each sail offers its style of wave sailing, but which suits you best? Severne rider Dieter Van der Eyken, usually an S-1 rider, took both sails for a spin and shared his views in his most recent video.
In this video, Dieter puts the 024 Blade 4.7 and the 024 S-1 4.8 to the test. First of all, Dieter covers the specs of each sail, overlaying them to highlight the design differences. He then rigs both sails before commencing his test.
A back-loop, a forward, a top turn, and Wave360 are the four moves Dieter uses as the benchmark to perform with each sail. He then shares the experiences he had performing these moves using both sails.
