BLADE _CONTROL ORIENTED WAVE

More power. All the control.

The Blade delivers 5-batten stability without the traditional weight compromise. Forward driving profiles and reduced backhand pressure mean slight wind variations go unnoticed. The sail does the work; you focus on sailing.

The 026 Blade has been rebuilt from the ground up to increase power and integrate the latest development concepts:

XR Xtended Range: Developed to increase wind range at both the lower AND higher ends. Deeper, more powerful profiles are locked in place with added skin tension to enhance control and stability.

Fat Head: Originally developed for the S-1, the increased head roach opens further under load, improving high-end control and wind range. Smaller sizes have relatively fatter heads whilst bigger sizes balance the head size for better aero efficiency.

DirectConnect: A system of directly connecting the load points of the sail to any hardware – masts, battens and boom. Zero lag means the sail reacts instantly to rider input.

CarbonFusion Trickle-Down: The BladePro construction is trickling down into the Blade, with welded foot panels and carbon load transfer strips in the head and tack.

Gradient Panel Technology: Overlapped corners logically reduce weight, increase strength and control stretch.

The 026 Blade sets a new standard by integrating these design concepts with industry-leading materials, including VX2, SpiderFibre, eM4 as well as the new D6 Dacron in the luff.

The Blade is the control-oriented wave sail for any conditions.

BLADE TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

SEVERNE continues to lead the way in materials and product design. BladePro and S-1 Pro are built entirely in welded CarbonFusion from sleeve to leech – no stitching means no failure points and significant weight reduction.

This technology now extends to the standard Blade and S-1 models through welded foot panels and carbon load transfer strips. Here’s the full rundown of the tech that makes up the Blade.

TECHNOLOGY

pointer
VX2

VX2

/ MATERIAL
VX2 is a vertically oriented X-Ply featuring increased fibre density for stability and control, reduced film thickness for less weight, and our proven scrim layer for dependable durability. The 2 signifies the film thickness in mil.

/ ADVANTAGES.
VX2 laminate significantly reduces deformation in the sail compared to eM3 material. The vertical stretch has been reduced by more than 20% whilst the horizontal stretch characteristics have increased fractionally to enhance the elastic springy feel that has defined the SV wave sails.

MORE STABLE.
MORE DURABLE.
LESS WEIGHT.

CarbonFusion technology

CarbonFusion technology

The technology usually reserved for the PRO models has now trickled down into the standard Blade and S-1 models, with stitch-less welded foot panels and carbon load transfer strips.

pointer
THERMOFORMED CAMO TACK FAIRING

THERMOFORMED CAMO TACK FAIRING

Protects your board from impact and neatly covers the foot detailing. It incorporates the rope stash pocket for easy storage of your downhaul rope.

pointer
MOLDED SOFT EDGE

MOLDED SOFT EDGE

With recessed grooving, covering any vulnerable stitching the moulded soft edge encloses the hard edge long the foot of the sail and protects the stitching from wear along the board non-skid.

pointer
SPIDERFIBRE

SPIDERFIBRE

A web of fibreglass filament that disburses loads across seams and throughout the body of the sail. By using stronger, lighter fibres and reducing sail patching, we can measurably reduce weight and swing weigh and at the same time, increase strength.

pointer
EM4 HIGH LOAD LAMINATE

EM4 HIGH LOAD LAMINATE

Based on the proven eM3 platform, the high load eM4 material features twice the amount of X-Ply fibre and increased film thickness to maximise durability. This new material allows weight reduction whilst maintaining puncture resistance and tear strength. Used in the lower impact zone in the sail.

pointer
GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY

GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY

Corners have overlapped panels which reduces the amount of patching. At the same time, these overlapped areas extend into the body of the sail so it transitions the load much better, will be less stretched over time. It’s a more stable way of building sails.

Rather than a single curved luff panel, the Blade uses separate panels that radiate out of the head and tack corners. This perfectly aligns the sail material with the direction of load. Previously the curved panel would have bias stretch in all the wrong places. Direct transmission of power. Increased longevity. Total Control.

pointer
D6 Dacron

D6 Dacron

New high performance Dacron material for Blade and S-1: better performance than traditional Dacron styles. Better long term shape retention.

GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY

With the new GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY improvements are obvious. Lighter weight and better stability.

Using the new GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY. Corners have overlapped panels which reduces the amount of patching. At the same time these overlapped areas extend into the body of the sail so it transitions the load much better, will be less stretch over time. It’s a more stable way of building sails.

The GRADIENT PANEL TECHNOLOGY logically reduces weight, increases strength and controls stretch. Overall weight is reduced but the more significant improvement is the feel – quicker reacting and lighter feel.

Rather than a single curved luff panel, we use separate panels – split luff – that radiate out of the head and tack corners. This perfectly aligns the sail material with the direction of load.

Previously the curved panel would have bias stretch in all the wrong places. Direct transmission of power. Increased longevity.

What is new on the 026 Blade?

The 026 Blade features DirectConnect construction that eliminates traditional seam reinforcement for a cleaner, lighter sail with enhanced durability. We’ve also introduced welded panels in the foot area and updated to D6 Dacron for improved feel and handling.

You can read more about technologies here.

Why use D6 Dacron on a wave sail?

D6 Dacron is lighter and softer than traditional Dacron while maintaining excellent tear resistance. It provides a more premium feel in the hands and allows the sail to twist off smoothly in gusts, giving you better control when you need it most.

What is the difference between the Blade and the Blade Pro?

The key difference between the Blade and Blade Pro is the material, as well as, the construction.

The BLADE PRO utilises Carbon Fusion
The BLADE PRO uses carbon fibre laminate from head to tack
The BLADE PRO is more reactive
The BLADE PRO features a better strenght to weight ratio

Can I rig the Blade on an SDM mast?

No, the Blade is  designed for RDM masts

What is the difference between Blade and S-1?

The S-1 is a manouvrable oriented sail, meaning it has more backhand drive, allowing you to effortlessly change lines during your turns, wave 360, or aerial setup.

The Blade is kept neutral in the front of the sail to give a lot more control when riding or jumping.

The BLADE has 5 battens
The BLADE is more control oriented.
The BLADE is more stable.
The BLADE is full X-PLY, the S-1 features a monofilm window

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE GATOR?

The Blade/Blade Pro is wave orientated whereas the Gator is a freewave/freeride oriented crossover sail.

The Blade/Blade Pro is specifically designed for windsurfers who spend most of their time in the waves. A neutral sail that helps to improve riding and jumping.

The Gator will be your best match if you enjoy bump and jump conditions, occasionally riding some waves. Offering a softer, easier handling, the Gator will have you planning earlier than anyone else.

The Gator is freewave/freeride oriented.
The Gator planes earlier.
The Gator has five battens up to 7.0 and six battens from 7.5 and up.

The BLADE is more wave oriented.
The BLADE is more stable.
The BLADE is more manoeuvreable.
The BLADE is less freemove/freeride oriented

Does the Blade change characteristics depending on size?

No, the Blade is a wave sail across the range. There are different needs between the sail sizes but in general, the feeling across the whole range is the same, making it easy to switch sizes.

WHERE CAN I ORDER SPARE PARTS OR MATERIALS TO REPAIR MY SAIL?

You can order repair material from your local dealer or distributor. Use the dealer locator to find your nearest SEVERNE dealer.

How do I rig my blade?

Check out our rigging guides section here.

CAN I USE A NON-SEVERNE MAST IN MY SAILS?

All of our development, testing, rigging, and tuning are done using SEVERNE masts.

We strongly recommend our customers use SEVERNE masts.

Our masts are designed with a specific SEVERNE bend curve that remains one of the pillars of our rigs.

We don’t test the performance or bend curves of other masts, and can thus not guarantee which performance or durability you can get out of your sail using a different brand mast.

We describe the curve of our mast as a SEVERNE curve.

The constant, hardtop, or flex top curves that generic mast brands describe base themselves on measurements on 3 points.

We measure our masts at 7 points minimum.
