LEADING THE WORLD RANKING

Amado is currently sitting in first place on the PWA World Tour ranking and is set to battle with his main opponents at the next event which will take place on the island of Fuerteventura from July 30th till August 3rd. With a stack of our 2020 Freek freestyle sails already in his quiver, we got in touch with him to know more about what gear he brings with him to an event like the PWA world cup in Fuerteventura.

Which sails do you usually bring with you to the world cup in Fuerteventura(Sails, masts, booms)?
For this year I brought the following gear for the Freestyle.

Freek: 4.0 – 4.4 – 4.8
Masts: 2x 400 RDM RED , 4x 370 RDM RED
Extensions: 4x Cyclops 36 Carbon

Booms:
3x 150-200 Enigma
1x 140-200 Enigma

Which is your favorite size and conditions to sail in Fuerteventura?
4.4 Freek – 92 liter Freestyle, with little wave for air moves on the way out and more flat water between the waves on the way in. In this way, we really can show the highest tricks in Freestyle possible.

Which boom do your preferred for Freestyle and what is your goto size?
The new 150 – 200 Enigma boom with the wider tailpiece is perfect for Freestyle it really gives me a lot of extra lift during the double air moves and allows me to put the sails a bit more “baggy” without touching the boom. This combined with the Freek 4.8 is absolutely my favorite setup for Freestyle.

Is the Fuerteventura world cup your favorite event?
No, my favorite event by far is Bonaire since it’s my home spot. But as I won my first Worldcup in Fuerteventura I’m always looking forward to competing there.

On the photos and videos, Sotavento beach in Fuerteventura looks like flat water paradise, but sometimes it can be choppy with some waves rolling in. Do you have any tips for people visiting the spot to set up their gear to work in these conditions?
For Fuerteventura I’m always using a smaller board than on other spots, this to improve the jumping. I also have slightly longer harness lines and use a bigger fin than on Bonaire for example.  Besides that, I keep the trim of the sails the same.

Last but not least what will be your favorite moves to do in Fuerteventura:
Double airculo on the way in and then big shifty and back loops on the way out when we have some ramps!
