Swiss born multi talent Daniel Aeberli (Nickname Choco) has decided to join the Severne team

Daniel had been with North Sails for the last 9 years and now is stoked about joining the Sails for the Revolution idea behind Severne. His experience sailing in flat water, chop or mast high waves in WA adds valuable feedback to the development of Severne sails whose continuing aim is to make sails for riders by riders

Interview with Danny Aeberli (SUI-96)

Why did you decide to join Severne?

For me, Severne is one of the most revolutionary sail brand on the market. I know the guys behind the scene really well and I am impressed about the work they do. After much testing, especially the Code RED race sails, I have to say that i am really stoked about their performance and believe they are more than just competitive. For me personally it is a real pleasure to work with the Severne R&D team while also working full time for F2 and giving them as much knowledge support and feedback as I can.

After having been with North for quite some time, does it feel exiting to be on a new team?

Sure! After 9 years with North sails I feel it is time for me to move on. I do like North sails a lot and I would like to thank them for the great time and all the support they have given me through the years. Like the Severne slogan says "sails for a revolution" i am really happy be part of that revolution. Together with the young Severne team I believe we can reach the goal to be one of the best sail brands in the world.

In which areas do you think you will be most active? R&D or competition?

I like both. I love to develop windsurfing equipment to make it perform better and improve windsurfing for everyone day by day. On the other side it is very important for me to compete. I get a lot of personal satisfaction to see my gear is competitive and working well, plus it is a lot of fun to compete with the best guys in the world.

What's your favorite sail?

My favorites so far are 7.7 Code Red, 5.5 Gator and the 7.0 NCX

Which events will you be joining in '08?

I do what i can....i love to compete in all disciplines like Freestyle, Slalom, Speed and Formula but its just not really possible to make it to all the events. This year, I will do the full speed tour, a few PWA slalom events, the Swiss national events plus all the windsurf festivals in Holland and Germany. So I think my schedule is already super full.

Besides your board sponsor F2, you have just recently started your own fin brand. What was the idea behind?

I always had a dream to have my own fin brand. Finally the time is right to get it started. Choco fins was born! Now I am happy to say that we had a great start and I am really looking forward to the first events this year. We have a very motivated team behind us and I believe we are able to make the best fins in the world.

If you are not busy developing, testing or traveling to events, where's your favorite spot to hang out?

With so much happening it's hard to concentrate on everything at one time but I am really happy with my life and I cant think of doing anything else. Switzerland is my home and I really enjoy sailing together with my friends on our lakes. My favorite place in Europe is Lake Garda, so many things to do there....and really great for windsurfing. Outside Europe, in winter time the Australian west cost is my absolute favorite place

Your motto in life?

Live your Dreams!
