SEVERNE sails are taking the lead in freeride test

German SURF (Nov '07) has published an extensive freeride sail test. We are exited to find out that the results are beyond expectations. These are the categories that were tested: 3 cams (Glide 7.5), 2 cams (Element 7.5) and no cam sails (NCX 7.0).

Element: early planing & high wind controllability
NCX: extreme light with early planing ability
Glide: best handling and performance

In the 3 cam category the so called "freeglide powersails" were also compared to one square meter larger (8.5) freerace sails and the results are very interesting: despite being smaller, the freeglide sails can easily compete with freerace sails, in the end it comes down to personal preference. The advantage of using a smaller freeglide sail (Glide 7.5) is seen as:
  • can be rigged on a 460 mast
  • can mostly keep up with 8.5 freerace sails
  • in comparison, they show a much better maneuver handling capacity
