PWA Grand Slam, Gran Canaria-The Team prepares for Pozo

After a thrilling start to the 2007 PWA Championship, the PWA now shifts to the coast of Pozo in Gran Canaria for a true grand slam event covering freestyle, slalom and of course wave.

With competition scheduled from July 10 through to July 18, it will be a grueling eight days in conditions that rarely fail to disappoint with a seemingly endless supply of powerful winds.

With several riders competing across disciplines, it will be a strong test of stamina and talent.

Many of Severne riders have already set up camp here for the past few weeks. Margareta Engstrom caught some of them in action on video. Check out the action on the clip below with commentary by Scott McKercher.

Tomorrow will see a full summary of the first day of action. It is expected that the competition will kick off with the wave event as calmer seas are forecast on the horizon in the coming days.

Below a brief summary of some of the different dream team riders to keep a good eye on at Pozo and beyond.

Scott McKercher (Starboard / Severne) was the 2004 World Champ and Pozo winner. They call him gramps but he still rips like a grom.

Boujmaa Guilloul (Starboard / Severne)- Jumping genius who's improving on port-tack every year. If Pozo was on his favoured side he'd probably take the title.

Jaeger Stone (Starboard / Severne)- Young Western Australian with a mature and powerful style.

Philip Koster (Starboard/ Severne) won the junior event last year and makes this his second Senior event aged just 13.

Jesper Orth (Starboard / Severne)- Starboards Western Australian talent- 15th in the overall standings
